FUNAAB Expels Michael Adewale Ifemosu For Writing Open Letter To VC On Facebook - Edoman - 11-03-2019 A 200-Level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Michael Adewale Ifemosu, has been expelled by the university for allegedly posting an open letter on his Facebook page to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Kolawole Salako. FUNAAB said Ifemosu was expelled because he posted an open letter on the internet to the Vice Chancellor, in which he was said to have raised what it called allegations and misrepresentation of fact about the university. Ifemosu, with Matric No. 20016/1186, was said to have posted the letter on Facebook in July 2019. DAILY POST learnt that Ifemosu is the Convener, Youth In Good Governance Initiative (YIGGI), and Ogun State Secretary for African Action Congress (AAC) – the political party under which Omoyele Sowore contested as the 2019 presidential candidate. In the said open letter, Ifemosu talked about the alleged poor transportation system of the institution, as well as the way students were reportedly being harassed by the police. He accused the management of “lackadaisical attitude and unprofessional management decisions” which he said was causing calamitous implosion in FUNAAB. His words, “Students lectures starts 9am and it is no more news that Funaabites queue, fight, and struggle to attend classes and also leave the school premises, however The Vice chancellor and the entire University Management team is seen with one or two official car(s); this makes transportation easier for them while student remain stranded and languishing in an unending tragedy. “The Funaab Bureau of Transport (FUNAABOT) has performed below expectations despite millions of naira allotted and allocated to the department for the purchase and renovation of MANCOTS but all went down the drain. Those monies remain carpeted till this moment. “Again! I read in the News that the Vice-Chancellor of Funaab wrote to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) that they are free to arrest students found wanting and guilty of cybercrimes. “I would have said it was a good move not until I became a victim and also received report of the arrest and detention of innocent students who were unjustly Harrassed , Extorted and Brutalized. “This is what you get when people who if managing a poultry, would make sure eggs are stolen, are given a University to manage. “It is rather unfortunate that we have accepted the sad reality that relegates our ‘scholars’ to chasers of political appointments – people who are ready to lick butts to be made INEC returning officers, Political Aides, VCs , Directors, Deans and even Head of Departments.” Angered by Ifemosu’s open letter on Facebook, the young man had his studentship terminated by the Senate of the university. In his letter of expulsion signed by the Registrar, Dr Bola Adekola, the university confirmed that it expelled the student for writing an open letter on Facebook to the Vice Chancellor of FUNAAB. The expulsion letter, which was received by Ifemosu on Friday, reads: “You would recall that in July 2019, you posted an open letter on the Internet to the Vice Chancellor of the school in which you raised allegations and misrepresentation of fact about the university. “At the Student Disciplinary Committee meeting held on August 29, 2019, you were invited for the purpose of giving you fair hearing on the allegation of an act perpetrated through the Internet, that is inimical to the integrity and corporate image of the university. “You would also recall that during the interaction, you took full responsibility for the publication and were unable to substantiate any of the allegations raised in your letter against the management and staff of the university. “Senate at its 217th Statutory Meeting held on Thursday, October 17, 2019, considered the report of the Student Disciplinary Committee on the allegation and thus decided that you have been found culpable of insubordination to university officials, defamation of character and act perpetrated through the Internet that is inimical to the integrity and corporate image of the university based on the extant rules and regulations on penalties for various offenses by students of the university. “Consequent upon the decision of Senate, you’re hereby expelled from the university as provided for the offenses committed by you. “You should surrender all university properties in your possession including the university identity card to the Dean, Student Affairs.” “Henceforth, you are not allowed to enter the university campus without a prior written approval of the Registrar. The University Chief Environment officer is by a copy of this letter instructed to strictly prevent you from entering the campus forthwith.” See Ifemosu’s open letter: Quote:OPEN LETTER TO THE VICE- CHANCELLOR, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE, ABEOKUTA, PROFESSOR SALAKO ON THE LINGERING TRANSPORTATION PROBLEM AND THE INDISCRIMINATE ARREST OF STUDENTS BY SARS AND EFCC OFFICIALS. Source; http://www.ogbeta.ng/2019/11/funaab-expels-student-for-writing-open.html?m=1 |
