FEC approves N2.7b for Port Harcourt Airport Perimeter fencing

MINISTER of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has said that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday increased the contract sum for the construction of perimeter fencing for Port Harcourt Airport to N2.7 billion with the approval of over N200 million to augment the earlier cost.



This is just as Federal Government has proposed to spend another N1.6 billion on the extension and asphalt overlay of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos runway 18 Left/36R of the airport.



Sirika who was taking questions from State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, also said the FEC approved N574 million for insurance and special risk projects for the Aviation College in Zaria



Meanwhile, the proposed expenditure on the extension and asphalt overlay, it was contained in the Ministry of Aviation’s 2020 budget proposal to the National Assembly as submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari.



Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said according to the proposal, the project had been outstanding and the sum would ensure its completion in 2020.



Besides, the government intended to spend another N800 million on rehabilitation of perimeter fence and road at the Lagos airport in the 2020 budget proposal to the National Assembly.



The government said the project was ongoing.


Also, the government proposed to expend N10.1 million on the remarking of runway, taxiway and other pavement at the Lagos airport, while N111.1 million was earmarked as consultancy for airport city in the 2020 budget.



The government also intended to spend additional N347 million as consultancy for the concession of four airports in the first phase of the exercise.
