Lion Escapes From Kano Zoological Gardens - Edoman - 10-20-2019
There is panic around Zoo Road area of Kano metropolis as lion escaped its enclosure in Kano Zoological Gardens on Saturday night.
Sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that the incident happened when the big cat overpowered rangers trying to put it back to its cage after agricultural show outing.
Although the zoo officials could not be reached for comment, the spokesman for Kano Police Command, DSP Abdullahi kiyawa, confirmed the incident.
He however said the lion was still within the zoo area.
He also said that a search team has been deployed to look for the lion, adding that policemen have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order.
Mr Kiyawa said no reported injury so far on the part of the rangers or other officials.

The lion that escaped from the Kano Zoological Garden yesterday, October 19, has been recaptured.
The head of the zoological garden, Sai’du Gwarzo, who confirmed this to BBC Hausa, said the lion was found inside the cage belonging to goats. The lion had killed and eaten all the goats in the cage

Kano’s 'crazy' lion that escaped and was recaptured will be tranquilised today after eating two ostriches

Saidu Gwadabe, the managing director of Kano Zoological Gardens has said the apparently crazy lion that jumped from its enclosure this weekend will be tranquilized today.
He said in an interview with Daily Nigerian that the zookeepers from National Park Service, Abuja have arrived at the zoo to capture the escaped lion. The Abuja rangers, he said came with 10ml shots of tranquilizers as the lion resisted the 1.5m shots they darted at him, after it was found in the goat cage.
Gwadabe said the beast had so far eaten two ostriches and a number of goats.
Quote:“The lion has now taken over the ostrich cage and killed two. We assembled some vehicles to light up the angle where the lion holes up. The problem we face now is that the dart guns available to us don’t fire over a long distance.
“We will do our best to rescue it alive to prevent human casualty. We will explore all means available to us before going offensive according to global best practice,” he told the newspaper.

Photos As Recaptured Kano Lion Returns To Cage
The Management of Kano Zoological Garden has said the escaped lion in its custody has finally been captured and returned to its cage.
The Managing Director of the Zoo, Alhaji Saidu Gwadabe, confirmed the capture of the lion in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Monday.
He said the animal was captured around 7:00 a.m. on Monday by the staff of the Zoo that used to feed it on a daily basis.
“The operation was to be conducted after the arrival of some experts from the National Park, Abuja but luckily around 7:00 a.m. today, our staff were able to use their expertise to put it back into its cage.
“I’m happy to tell you that the escaped lion has finally been captured and taken back to its cage this morning,” he said.
NAN reports that the reinforcement from the National Park, Abuja arrived Kano around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday for the operation.
The escaped lion was said to have killed three goats and an ostrich before moving into the bush within the premises of the zoological garden on Saturday night.
NAN recalled that the lion escaped when rangers were about to put it back into its cage after returning it from the national agricultural show in Nasarawa State.
