Xenophobia: Nigerians Attack Oby For Attending World Economic Forum In S'Africa - Edoman - 09-04-2019

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has come under fire for attending the ongoing World Economic Forum in South Africa despite federal government’s boycott of the event over xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in the country, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that Nigeria, alongside African countries like Rwanda, Malawi and DR Congo, boycotted the two-day summit holding in Cape Town following the attack on foreigners in South Africa.

Ezkwesili earned heavy criticisms from Nigerians after photos of her attending the summit surfaced on social media, particularly on micro-blogging platform, Twitter.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, was among those to first criticize the former presidential candidate in the last general election.

“Surprised to see some Nigerian experts in everything governance who spend most of their time lecturing the Government on empathy and the art of prioritizing national interest over individual benefits, (but) still went ahead to attend the summit”, he wrote.

Other critics claimed that Mrs Ezekwesili could not afford to boycott the event because of “her love for dollars” and the “camera”.

Apart from the former Minister, Founder of Zenith Bank, Jim Ovia, was also spotted at the event and currently being dragged on Twitter alongside Oby.

Below are some reactions to her attendance at the event, as obtained by Igbere TV..

Oby Ezekwesili Reacts As Nigerians Attack Her For Attending World Economic Forum

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has come under fire for attending the ongoing World Economic Forum in South Africa despite federal government’s boycott of the event over xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in the country.

Those who have genuine concerns about my being at World Economic Forum in South Africa, should please know that my decision to be here was thoroughly considered. I am in South Africa leveraging my ensure that @GovernmentZA never again looks away while our citizens are attacked, maimed & killed.

#Xenophobia: Nigerians call out Oby Ezekwesili for attending the World Economic Forum in South Africa

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili is currently in South Africa to attend the 2019 World Economic Forum and Nigerians are dragging her for it.

Her attendance at the WEF comes in the wake of the recent xenophobic attacks on Africans  living in South Africa which led Nigeria, Rwanda, and Congo to pull out of the event.

Social media users have since called her out for not pulling out of the event.

In her defense, Oby Ezekwesili said, 'those who have genuine concerns about my being at  @wef  in South Africa, should please know that my decision to be here was thoroughly considered.  I am in South Africa leveraging my ensure that the South African Government never again looks away while our citizens are attacked, maimed & killed'.

'Those of you who take delight in making ‘Politics’ of our Citizens’ Lives can carry on with your usual trade. I stand strong on doing the things one can do to safeguard lives. Citizens’ Lives are too sacred & important for me to be drawn into your latest ‘playground’. Never'.

See how Nigerians are reacting below....
