Court halts Senate, House of Representatives from taking over Edo state House of Asse - Edoman - 08-07-2019 Court halts Senate, House of Representatives from taking over Edo state House of Assembly   Justice Taiwo Taiwo of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja today issued an order barring both the Senate and the House of Representatives from taking over the legislative duties of the Edo State House of Assembly.   Justice Taiwo gave the order at the resumed hearing in the case instituted by the Edo State Government to challenge the directive by the National Assembly to the Governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, to issue a fresh proclamation of the state’s House of Assembly.   Recall that both chambers have threatened to take over the legislative duties and powers of the State House of Assembly if the state governor fails to make the fresh proclamation within three weeks.   The state government described the directive as unconstitutional and approached the court for an order dimissing the National Assemblies directive.   Delivering judgement in the suit filed by the Edo state government, Justice Taiwo ordered parties in the case to maintain status quo pending the determination of the case.     by Linda Ik
