Commodity group import price index rises 0.89%, says NBS - Edoman - 03-19-2019 Commodity group import price index rises 0.89%, says NBS Tuesday, March 19, 2019  BUSINESS                              National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) yesterday, in its website, said that all commodity group import price index, between October and December 2018, rose 0.89 per cent due to a rise in the prices of prepared foodstuffs. It also said that all commodity group export price index edged down by 2.02 per cent adding that the decrease was led by falling prices of vegetable products, vehicles, aircraft and parts thereof and products of the chemical and allied industries. The same way, all products terms of trade (TOT) index fell 2.8 per cent, due to falling prices of products of the chemical and allied industries, mineral products, live animals and animal products. Whereas all region group export index declined by 2.02 per cent due to falling prices in trade with Asia and within Africa, all region group import index ticked up 0.76 per cent due to increase in prices associated with trade from Oceania and Africa However, the bureau said that all region terms of trade fell -2.78 per cent due to a fall in the prices of goods traded in Africa. It listed major trading partners in Q4, 2018 as India, China, Spain, France and Netherlands while the major export to these countries was crude petroleum and natural gas and the major import from these countries was motor spirit (ordinary). The bureau also noted that the average price of one dozen of agric eggs medium size decreased year-on-year by 10.56 per cent and month-on month by 1.19 per cent to N464.27 in February 2019 from N469.85 in January 2019 while the average price of piece of agric eggs medium size (price of one) increased year-on-year by 2.33 per cent and month-on-month by 0.12 per cent to N42.23 in February 2019 from N42.18 in January 2019.
