Many Pupils Dead, Over 100 Trapped As School Building Collapses In Lagos - Edoman - 03-13-2019 Tragedy struck, some minutes ago, at Itafaji, Lagos Island, as a 3 storey building housing a school collapsed, killing and trapping many. As at the time of filing this report, many students are being rushed to the General hospital, Marina, while parents are trooping there to search for their children. It’s gathered that over 100 students are currently still trapped and being dug out. The school is said to be on the last floor of the three-storeyed building that collapsed. Over 100 pupils are said to be feared dead. Parents are at the scene weeping and calling out the names of their children. Rescue operation is currently ongoing. There is a private school in that building and a lot of children are trapped in that building. Some of the children are dead while some have been rescued. But a lot of children are still trapped inside the building. Some parents have more than one child in the school, some have 2, some have up to 4. The collapse was said to be as a result of a dredging that happen within the area that affected the building. Mr Abdulfatah Ayoola while fighting back tears, told TheCable that his son had finished eating and was on his way out when he unusually asked him to pray for him. Over 20 residents including pupils of a Nursery/Primary School operating within the building lost their lives while tens of others were rushed to different hospitals on Lagos Island on Wednesday. A young and vibrant lady identified as Orekoya Temitope Adeshewa was among those who didn't survive the tragedy. It was gathered that Temtiope was brought out of the rubble around 6:24pm on Wednesday and was still breathing when she was rescued. She was rushed to General hospital, where she gave up the ghost. Ibrahim Alabi Eleshin, Kazeem, Abdulbasit, are among victims who died in the building collapse and have been buried according to Islamic rites. Watch the videos below.
