The National Economic Council (NEC) Thursday received and discussed the initial report of its Ad-Hoc Committee interfacing with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on the complete deregulation of the downstream sub-sector of the industry, and appropriate pricing of petrol.

Laolu Akande, the spokesman of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, in a statement issued after the meeting presided over by his principal, said observations and comments were made and it was resolved that an updated version would be submitted by the Committee inclusive of observations raised and an updated report be made to the National Economic Council for further action.

Akande said the Council also noted that the Federal Government was working out modalities of providing Autogas conversion kits, and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)/ Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), mass transit buses to major cities nationwide as cheaper alternatives to PMS/petrol for transportation and fuel.

He said the council received updates on the FG Budget Support Facility to States as the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning informed the Council that with the agreement reached on the matter with the CBN providing a bridge financing facility to the States, deductions from State Governments will now commence from July.

The presidential aide said NEC urged State Governments to take proactive and necessary mitigative measures in addressing the envisaged 2021 flood disaster in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic while encouraging relevant Federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to take necessary actions.

Ahead of next week’s Sallah festivities, the council urged strict adherence to the COVID-19 response guidelines across the country, after receiving a regular state performance report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

According to the report, the Coronavirus positivity rate has gone up in the country just as 3 cases of the Delta variant have now been detected.

The NCDC, therefore, urged the Council to ensure the sustenance of effective COVID-19 response nationwide, while improving public health awareness, adherence to public health, and social measures.

The NEC Ad-hoc Committee interfacing with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 led by Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State Governor, while briefing the meeting, said State Governors will continue to monitor the situation for the next one week to see if there will be need for an emergency Ad-hoc committee meeting on the situation.

The Council also received an update on cholera cases in some parts of the country.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL

FRIDAY, JULY 16TH 2021.

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME

THEME: THE GOD-NATURE IN YOU

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature… (2 Peter 1:4).

Every man has an intuition that he’s more than an animal, and that’s correct. Jesus is the very embodiment of the divine nature, the very revelation of God, the express image of divinity, the outshining of God’s glory. He became a living example for us to see and to behold God’s plan, purpose, and expectation.

The Bible says, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4). Then we read in 1 John 5:11-12, “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life….” When you were born again, the divine life was imparted to your spirit; from that moment, you became a partaker of the divine nature— an associate of the God-kind.

This is what men have always sought consciously and unconsciously! This is the mystery, testimony and power of Christianity: the reality of our oneness with Deity. The bane of many has been their ignorance of the power, import and impact of the divine life in them. They aren’t conscious that as Christians, we’re God carrying vessels, fully loaded with God!

Be awakened to this reality, so much so, it reflects in your language. If you’re still one to make statements such as, “I was scared to death”; or “That thing almost killed me,” then you haven’t come to the awareness that you’ve received the life and nature of God into your spirit! You don’t yet know who you are.

We don’t die! Life works in us. We don’t have the spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind. Being born again, you belong to a heavenly pantheon; you’re in the God-class. The life in you can’t be tainted, corrupted or impaired by sickness, disease or death. But because many don’t know this truth, they live as victims.

No wonder the psalmist lamented, “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes” (Psalm 82:6-7). How sad! Let your divinity soar; give expression to the God-life, the God-nature in you. Don’t live as an ordinary man or woman, for Christ has made you extraordinary. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

Blessed be God; the life in me can’t be corrupted by sickness, disease or death; I’m absolutely indestructible, because I’m a partaker of the divine nature. Divinity is at work in me. Christ is my life and my glory. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

2 Peter 1:3-4 KJV “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that [pertain] unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

1 John 4:4 KJV” Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

I affirm that the land is green for me! The wilderness is now a fertile field, and the fertile field has become a forest. New doors of opportunities are open unto me by the Spirit of God. I’ve been granted spiritual insight and set on the right course for life.

The keys of the kingdom have been given unto me; thus, I am celebrating my riches generously. I live above lack and other distracting influences of this earthly realm because I live in, and by the Word.

Christ is my wisdom; I am wise, I have the wisdom to do whatever I need to do. I function today at my best potentials because the wisdom of God works in me, talking through me, leading me, guiding me and causing me to be effective and productive in everything I lay my hands to do. Hallelujah!

Nothing is impossible with me because my life is the story and testimony of God’s grace. There’s nothing that I do that is void of the anointing. The anointing of God Spirit is on everything I do. This anointing causes me to expand, spread, flourish and advance in life.

This is my year of preparation and I am far ahead of any competitor or distractor. Hallelujah! The speed of the Spirit has been granted me and I experience luxuriant growth and persistent productivity in every area of my life.

Whatever I set my heart to do, the blessing of God is on it. I have multiplied abilities, wherever I am being checked or tested; the least they will ever find is that I am ten times better. I am anointed to walk on water and everywhere around me is green. Blessed be God. Hallelujah!

God bless you

Reports on release of Boko Haram fighters in Borno false - Nigerian Army says

The Nigerian Army has refuted reports that 1,009 former Boko Haram terrorists were released to the Borno State government on Wednesday, July 14.

In a statement released on Facebook and on its website, the Nigerian Army (NA) said the report is an "attempt to dampen troops' morale and denigrate the NA".

The army added that the 1,009 released to the Borno state government are "cleared suspects, not ex-fighters."

A statement signed by Onyema Nwachukwu, Brigadier General, Director Army Public Relations, reads:

"The Nigerian Army (NA) has been notified of a media publication alleging that the NA has handed over 1009 Ex-Boko Haram fighters to Borno State government. The report also alleged that the event was shrouded in secrecy. This report, is obviously one of those attempts to dampen troops’ morale and denegrate the NA, riding on the back of unsubstantiated report and misinformation.

"While the NA would not want to join issues with the masterminds of this false narrative, it is important to set the records straight.

"It is an indisputable fact that the ongoing Counter Terrorism Counter Insurgency Operations (CTCOIN) in the North East has led to the arrest of several terrorism/insurgency suspects. These suspects have been held in custody, while undergoing profiling and further investigations by experts from the Joint Investigation Centre (JIC) and those who are found culpable are usually handed over to prosecuting agencies accordingly, while those who are not implicated in terrorism and insurgency are cleared and released to the state government for rehabilitation before they are reintegrated into the society.

"These cleared suspects are therefore not ex Boko Haram fighters, as peddled in the said online report and as the masterminds would want to impress on the public. A total of 1009 cleared suspects, not ex fighters, were therefore released after this rigorous process on Wednesday 14 July 2021. It is also necessary to categorically state that the handing over of the cleared suspects was not shrouded in secrecy as it was witnessed by United Nations Humanitarian and government agencies, in tandem with global best practice.

"The NA therefore urges the general public to discountenance this misinformation, as it is evidently a manipulation and distortion of the truth and reality of the event."

Quote:The political intriques ahead of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra has shifted to Abuja where an Upper Area Court has issued a direct criminal summons the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA) and former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo to appear before it over alleged serial abuse of office and breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers while he held office as the Governor CBN between 29th May, 2004 – 29th May, 2009.

The direct Criminal Complaint brought by one Oliver Bitrus pursuant to Sections 88 and 89 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

The criminal summons marked DC/CR/556/2021 which was issued in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code (CAP 30:255) is signed by Gambo Garba of the Upper Area Court, Zuba, Abuja.

It was predicated upon the complaint filed on July 14, 2021 by counsel to the complainant, Ezea Ferdinand.

It commanded Soludo to appear before the court on August 23, 2021 in respect of the allegations made against him.

According to court documents, the complainant, Oliver Bitrus, alleged that between the period Prof. Soludo held office as a Public Officer he flagrantly breached the Code of Conduct for Public Officer by buying or acquiring interest in a property known and described as No. 50 Brondesbury Park, London, NW6 7AT, United Kingdom. The property is covered by File Plan of Tile No. MX362301.

Mr. Oliver claimed that this property, was bought or acquired using a proxy and/or nominee company known as Universal Energy Company Limited, and which investigation revealed was incorporated in the Isle of Man; and now used to round-trip public funds for the purchase. As a matter fact, purchase price of £2,150, 000 was paid on 20th October, 2006 in a single tranche, which sum was not fairly attributable to his income as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria at the material time.

Further investigation also disclosed that presently, the property is being occupied by defendant, his spouse and children and used as their personal and official addresses for all their companies and other business undertaking.

The Complainant listed companies owned and operated by the Soludo’s and domiciled at the said property to include ” ZINORA LIMITED: A private company owned by Mrs. Nonye Soludo (spouse of Chukwuma Charles Soludo). This is company limited by shares which was registered on 29th January, 2013 with Company N: 8379214 and also has its registered office at No. 50 Brondesbury Park, London, NW6 7AT, United Kingdom.

“The SOLUDO FOUNDATION: Registered on 24th July, 2014 as a private company limited by guarantee with its registered office at No. 50 Brondesbury Park, London, NW6 7AT, United Kingdom. It also has the Company No: 9145134. The company has the following persons as members or directors – Nonye Frances Soludo, Chukwuma Soludo, Ozonna Tochukwu Soludo, Ifeatu Adaora Nnenna Soludo etal with having the above mentioned property as their address.

“”ALLSTERS INVESTMENT LIMITED: Registered on 2nd September, 2015 as a private company limited by shares with Company No: 9757553. It has its registered address at the same No. 50 Brondesbury Park, London, NW6 7AT, United Kingdom and also has the following persons as Directors – Mrs. Nonye F. Soludo, Miss Ifeatu Adaora Nnenna Soludo, Mr. Ozonna Tochukwu Soludo and Mr. Chinua Belolisa Naeto Soludo with all the directors having the property in issue as the address.

The Claimant further claims that a sequential trail of evidence has revealed that while holding public office as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the defendant abused his office and breached the Code of Conduct for Public Officers by using a proxy, nominee or trustee company – Universal Energy Company Limited, incorporated in the Isle of Man for syndication of fund, to acquire the property and deliberately failed to declare the said property or his obvious interest therein in his Assets Declaration Form submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau. As a result, he flagrantly violated Article 11 of the Part 1, 5th Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as Amended) and thereby liable to the penal sanction of disqualification from holding any other public office for a period of 10 years and forfeiture of the illicit property to the Federal Government of Nigeria pursuant to Article 18(2) of the Law.

2023 presidency: Southern govs can’t intimidate us, North has 4 years after Buhari – Arewa youths

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, on Thursday declared that the North still has four years to rule Nigeria, after the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari.

AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima made the declaration while faulting Southern governors call for a rotational presidency in 2023.

Speaking exclusively with DAILY POST, Shettima insisted that former Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan ruled Nigeria for 14 years in favour of the South, while late Musa Yar’Adua and Buhari would have ruled for 10 years in 2023, hence the North has four years outstanding.
Southern governors had demanded that the Southern part of the country should produce Nigeria’s next president in 2023.

They made the call during a meeting in Lagos State.
Reacting, Shettima noted that Southern governors cannot intimidate the North with such decisions.

He said: “That is their personal view which is not binding on Nigerians and Northerners.

“We are in a democracy and it must be practiced with all inclusiveness; as far as we are concerned, it’s not binding on anybody and nobody will abide by such resolution.

“If we are talking about justice, it was not served to us as far as we are concerned, because there is no way Obasanjo would have had eight years uninterrupted, Yar’Adua only did two years then Jonathan took over as an acting president in 2009 and in 2011, Jonathan should not have contested going by the arrangement.

“North is supposed to have eight years uninterrupted but there was interruption due to natural or unforseen circumstances we found ourselves in.
“We foresaw a day like this coming, Jonathan contested in 2011 and won the election. He had six years while Obasanjo had eight years; all in favour of the Southern part of the country. Jonathan and Obasanjo did 14 years in favour of the South.

“After the death of Yar’Adua, the two years outstanding with Buhari’s eight years, if he finishes, you discover that North has only 10 years; so where lies the remaining four years, where is justice?

“We insist that nobody can intimidate us, I will say it again, nobody, not even the Southern governors can intimidate the North as it is today.

“The decision of the Southern governors is purely their business and is not binding on any of us in the North.”

Brazil President, Jair Bolsonaro, in hospital and may need surgery after battling hiccups for 10 days

Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, has been admitted to hospital following complaints of stomach pains after being plagued by a bout of hiccups for more than 10 days.

The 66-year-old was admitted to the Armed Forces Hospital in Brasilia early Wednesday morning, July 14.

An initial statement said doctors were examining his persistent hiccups.

However, hours later, the president’s office said Dr Antonio Luiz Macedo, the surgeon who operated on him after he was stabbed in the abdomen during the 2018 presidential campaign, decided to transfer him to Sao Paulo, where he will undergo additional tests to see whether he might need emergency surgery.

The stabbing caused intestinal damage and serious internal bleeding and the president has gone through several surgeries since, some unrelated to the attack.

Shortly after news of his transfer to Sao Paulo, Bolsonaro posted on his Facebook page a photo of himself smiling with his eyes closed and lying in a hospital bed covered in sensors and cables.

"I thank everyone for their support and prayers," Bolsonaro said in the post.

Bolsonaro’s health has been an issue for much of his presidency, after he was stabbed in the intestines on the campaign trail in 2018 and nearly died.

In recent weeks, Mr Bolsonaro has appeared to struggle with speaking on various occasions and said that he suffers from recurring hiccups following surgery on a dental implant on July 3.

During an interview with Radio Guaiba on July 7, he said: "I apologise to everyone who is listening to me, because I’ve been hiccuping for five days now."

He suggested that some medications prescribed after dental surgery might be the cause, adding: "I have the hiccups 24 hours a day."

The Nigerian military on Wednesday, July 14, reportedly released 1,009 ex-Boko Haram insurgents, who had been in military custody at Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The former terrorists were handed over to the Borno State Government in a secret ceremony that was initially billed to take place at an earlier date but was suspended indefinitely by the military authorities at the wake of the appointment of the new COAS, Punch reports.

Sources in the army told the publication that the ex-terrorists were handed over to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, who represented the state government at the event.

The officer said, according to Punch, "The army handed 1,009 Boko Haram insurgents to the state government today (Wednesday). It was done in secret. We were warned not to allow journalists to the venue."

We are in trouble if INEC is not allowed to transmit election results electronically - Falana

Human rights lawyer and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana has said that the country will be in trouble if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is stopped from transmitting election results electronically.

Falana who asked Nigerians to demand for the right thing to be done in an interview on Channels Television, cited Section 52 of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill which gives INEC unchallenged powers to device any process to guarantee that everybody is able to vote.

He said;

Quote:“By virtue of Section 52 of the Electoral Act amended in 2015, INEC is given unchallenged powers to device any process to guarantee that everybody is able to vote and so INEC is empowered to transmit results electronically.
“When you now put it in the law that INEC shall not transmit election results electronically, we are in trouble. I’m sure that Nigerians are going to continue to demand that proper thing is done in order to ensure that the process we are putting in place will guarantee fair and free election.”

The senior lawyer also condemned plans to prevent election results declared by INEC under duress from being discared.

Falana urged Nigerians to tell their representatives in the National Assembly not to sabotage the electoral process.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES,

THURSDAY 15TH JULY 2021.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC: KNOW AND WALK IN TRUTH

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses (1 Timothy 6:12).

In 2 John 1:1, the Bible says, “The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth.” Nobody wrote about the truth and the use of that word like John. Why was he so eager to talk, and so conscious, about the truth? He caught it when Jesus said, ...I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6).
None of the other writers of the gospels quoted Jesus on that; but it was very important to John. In 3 John 1:1, he said, “The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.” Here, John calls the Gospel of Christ, the Truth.

Truth is reality. The Word of God that’s been given to us is truth: “…thy word is truth” (John 17:17). You can be as prosperous, healthy and successful as you want to be. What you need is to train your mind to stay on the truth of God’s Word always.
It doesn’t matter what you hear or what you’re being told; whether it’s about your health, family, finances, business, etc., as long as it doesn’t measure up to God’s truth, it’s not a factor. Truth has nothing to do with physical manifestations or sensory perceptions.
When you know truth, for instance, you won’t be bothered if the devil told you you were going to die of cancer or whatever disease. When he whispers such thoughts to you, silence his voice by responding with God’s truth: “The Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in me, and He has vitalized my mortal body! The Holy Ghost perambulates my body. Hallelujah!”

That’s walking in the truth! There’re things you’d completely disallow in your life—everything that isn’t of God—because you’re compelled by the knowledge of the truth. Glory to His Name forever!

PRAYER

The truth of God is revealed in my spirit, and I’m walking in truth. I’ve become one with the truth. I’m compelled by the knowledge of the truth to walk in God’s perfect will for my life and establish His righteousness in the earth, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Stop Lying To Nigerians On Security Matters, Saraki Tells Presidency
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-14-2021, 11:01 PM - No Replies

Quote:Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has described as untrue a statement by the Presidency that the 8th National Assembly under his leadership did not organize any security summit to address the insecurity challenges in the country.

Saraki in a statement titled ‘8th Senate Did Organise a Security Summit At NAF Conference Centre on Feb. 8 and 12, 2018’ and signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) Abubakar Bukola Saraki Media Office said those representing President Muhammadu Buhari must ensure their facts are based on truth and not falsehood.

“The Media Office of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the immediate-past President of the Senate, notes with dismay the claim contained in the seventh paragraph of a press statement released on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 and signed by Mr Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity) in which President Muhammadu Buhari was quoted as saying that “he tried very hard to get the 8th (National) Assembly to do same (organise a security summit) for the sake of the country “and I didn’t succeed much. But time has proved me right”.

“The President was said to have made the claim while receiving the report of the National Security Summit held on May 26, 2021 by the 9th House of Representatives from Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

On a matter as sensitive and important in the scale of constitutional responsibilities of the legislature as security, it will be irresponsible of us not to state the true situation concerning the claim by the Presidency. We need to inform the general public that the 8th Senate, without any prompting from the Presidency, organised a well attended two-day Security Summit on February 8 and 12, 2018.

The Security Summit was organised by the ad-hoc committee of the 8th Senate on the Review of the Security Infrastructure headed by incumbent Senate President, Dr. Ahmed Lawan who was then Senate Leader and it held at the Nigeria Air Force Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja. The Summit was declared open by the incumbent Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. Also, the leadership of the armed forces and other security agencies were all present at the closed door deliberations.

After the report of the Summit was adopted by the Senate in the chamber, the 20-point recommendation was officially forwarded to the President for consideration and necessary action.

The Media Office of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki is constrained to make the above clarification for posterity sake because we have noticed the recent trend in which some sources deliberately push out false narratives aimed at shifting blames and passing the buck arising from the security and other challenges confronting the country on the 8th National Assembly. We urge discerning members of the public to always take their time to properly check the veracity of the claims contained in such narratives.

We believe that facts are sacred and opinions are free. Therefore, we urge those in charge of representing the views of the President to the public to always check their facts very diligently and ensure that such reports are based on truth and nothing but the truth.

Nigeria has failed me," Woman kidnapped, beaten and raped for days narrates horrific experience

A woman has narrated her horrific ordeal in the hands of kidnappers.

The Twitter user said she was travelling from Enugu to Rivers State, unaware that the bus she boarded was operated by kidnappers.

She said she dozed off in the bus and woke in a location with others, realising she had been kidnapped.

She said their abductors asked for the contact of their family members and called each contact for ransom.

A man and a woman whose families couldn't pay were executed. Those who paid were released.

The victim said her sister took long in raising the money because she had to sell off her properties and needed time.

While they waited for the money, she said she was beaten and raped by two of her abductors.

After the ransom of 2 million Naira was paid, she said that the abductors also took all the money in her account before dropping her off.

She also claimed that while the kidnappers were taking her to drop her off after ransom was paid, they passed police officers who allowed the kidnappers to continue on their journey without looking inside the car.

She shared a photo of her bruised face and revealed she's receiving treatment in the hospital.

Zuma Protest: Crowds Rampage, Hospital Operations Disrupted As Looting Continues
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-14-2021, 10:19 PM - Replies (3)

Quote:A Reuters photographer saw several shops being looted in the town of Hammersdale, Kwazulu-Natal, on Wednesday. Local TV stations meanwhile showed more looting of shops in South Africa's largest township Soweto, and in the Indian Ocean port city of Durban.

Soldiers have been sent onto the streets to help outnumbered police contain the unrest and order was being restored in some places on Wednesday, such as the northern Johannesburg township of Alexandra, local TV reported.

The National Hospital Network (NHN), representing 241 public hospitals already under strain from Africa's worst COVID-19 epidemic, said it was running out of oxygen and drugs, most of which are imported through Durban, as well as food.

"The impact of the looting and destruction is having dire consequences on hospitals," the NHN said. "And the epicentre of the pandemic is within the affected provinces currently under siege." Staff in affected areas were unable to get to work, it said, worsening shortages caused by a third wave of infections.

As authorities in Durban seemed powerless to stop looting, vigilantes armed with guns, many of them from South Africa's white minority, blocked off streets to prevent further looting, Reuters TV footage showed. One man shouted "go home and protect your homes".

Other residents gathered outside supermarkets waiting for them to open so they could stock up on essentials.

The poverty and inequality fuelling the unrest has been compounded by severe social and economic restrictions aimed at curbing COVID-19. The United Nations in South Africa expressed concern that disruptions to transport for workers from the riots would exacerbate joblessness, poverty and inequality.

Lone PDP lawmaker in Kwara assembly suspended after criticizing Governor AbdulRazaq

Jimoh Agboola, the only Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker in Kwara state house of assembly has been suspended after he criticized Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration.

Agboola who was suspended indefinitely for alleged contempt and abuse of privilege, had during an interview on a local radio station in the early hours of Tuesday July 13, accused the APC-led government of sidelining his constituency from developmental projects.

According to him, lawmakers in the assembly have been mobilised to execute some projects in their various constituencies through the Grassroots Development Initiative (a state prototype of the federal constituency projects) except him.

The lawmaker also  blamed the deplorable state of roads in Gaa-Akanbi area of Ilorin on Governor AbdulRazaq’s failure to conduct local government elections two years into office.

Alleging that he has been victimized by his colleagues in the state assembly through exclusion from benefits, he also announced his constituents’ resolve to stage a protest walk on Saturday July 17.

However on Tuesday July 13, House Leader, Abubakar Olawoyin moved a motion for his suspension while drawing the assembly’s attention to the radio interview.

Insisting that “the Assembly is an institution and not an individual and as such must be respected", he accused Mr Agboola of making a despicable comment about the House and a move to stage a protest against the government and the House of Assembly.

He added that a call for a protest amid insecurity is unsafe and could lead to chaos. Olawoyin was backed on the motion by another lawmaker representing Iwo/Isin constituency, Olumide Ayokunle.

Ayokunle stated that derogatory language against the House should not be condoned and must be investigated.

Following the motion, Speaker of the Hous, Yakubu Danladi directed the House Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Judiciary to conduct an investigation on the matter and report its findings as soon as possible.

Mr Agboola was also asked to stop attending plenary pending the conclusion of the investigation.

However the lawmaker who spoke to Premium Times, stressed that the house does not have the power to deny him representation of his people. Agboola also insisted that the Saturday protest will hold.

He said;

Quote:“I was saying the facts about what is happening in the state. I have not in any way incited anybody against anybody.
“I’ve decided to handle the matter in a mature way."

EFCC arrests Pastor for allegedly diverting Church’s N15m for his PhD and secretly enlisting his wife on Church’s payroll

A Pastor identified as Omosebi Fred Adeola has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before Justice A.O Otaluka of the Federal High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja on an 11-count charge bordering on conspiracy, abuse of office and diversion of funds to the tune of N15,619,000.

Adeola who  is a Pastor of the Adventist Church and Country Director of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency of Nigeria, allegedly diverted relief funds for himself, including paying for his PhD programme at Babcock University and illegally enlisting his wife on the church’s payroll.

Count two of the charge said being a signatory to the various bank accounts, around 13th December 2017, in Abuja, Adeola committed criminal breach of trust.

It was alleged that he first transferred N7,714,000 from the account of Adventist Development and Relief Agency of Nigeria to the account of one Ayeni Gbenga Joseph, cashed it and then converted it into personal use.

However after Adeola pleaded "not guilty" to all the charges, Prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Audu asked the court for a trial date and requested that the defendant be remanded in custody pending trial.

Defence counsel, E. G. Alala notified of a pending bail application, and prayed the court to grant his client bail as he is “a modest man of God who honoured EFCC invitations”.

Justice Otaluka granted Adeola bail in the sum of N10m and two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be residents in Abuja, have a property worth N10m, provide addresses of residence, provide identity cards, passport photographs and N3 million as bonds.

The case was then adjourned until September 30, 2021, for trial.

Quote:Fresh facts have emerged about a recent show of shame by security operatives at the National Assembly who fought over a cash gift from Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum.

It was reported that the Department of State Services (DSS) and police were involved, but top security sources confirmed yesterday that those involved were from the office of the Sergeant-at-Arms.

In some of the video clips, over 10 security operatives were seen struggling to pick some naira notes sprayed by an aide to the Borno governor.

The source revealed the identity of some of those captured in the video that has gone viral.

A fight had ensued last Wednesday among personnel of the Sergeant-at-Arms’ office over the sharing of the cash gift allegedly given to them by the visiting governor.

Pantami Registers Nigeria As DCO Member, To Share Personal Data - Gazette

Terror-linked Pantami to hand over Nigerians’ personal data to Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, other Islamic countries - People Gazette

Quote:Isa Pantami, Nigeria’s communications minister whose dangerous religious and political views, including a declaration of support to Osama bin Laden, the Taliban and Al Qaeda, have continued to unsettle Nigerians, has dragged his secular country into an alliance of Islamic countries.

Mr Pantami signed Nigeria up for the membership of Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO), a group that includes strictly Islamic countries. Mr Pantami did not throw the matter up for public debate in Nigeria, where a virtually equal number of Muslims and Christians would have properly looked at the implication of the country’s membership before taking a decision. The minister appeared to have on his own, presumably with the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari, whose dangerous religious and ethnic agenda has long been documented.

In a chain of key objectives listed on its website, DCO said its first aim was to collect and share data across the member countries towards digital economic prosperity.

The body said it aimed to optimise “policy and regulatory frameworks to expand cross-border data flows and digital trade among DCO members.” Other potential benefits of the group include a plan to “reduce the digital divide across the DCO” and also to “align approaches to engagement and negotiations with private sector actors.”

The DCO listed its membership countries as the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the State of Kuwait, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Sultanate of Oman, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The DCO said the countries were brought together because of their common “vision, strategic goals, and shared values.”

But Mr Pantami’s intention has unsettled some Nigerians online, who said it was suspicious that a minister with a proven history of extremist views would seek to drag a secular Nigeria into an alliance of Muslim countries.

“I can’t recollect any public stakeholder consultation on this matter. No matter how hard you try to spin it, a minister with extremist antecedents signing Nigeria up for a group that comprises only Islamic countries is going to be viewed more about religion than the economy,” Amara Nwankpa, a policy expert based in Abuja, said on Twitter Wednesday morning.

Mr Pantami disclosed Nigeria’s intention to join the organisation in April, but the minister has provided little information to guide Nigerians on the benefits of the alliance.

Mr Pantami’s failure to elaborate might be traceable to his role as the custodian of Nigerian’s personal data.
Since late 2020, the minister has been on an aggressive push to collect personal data of Nigerians, including their biometric information for telephone lines and a national identity card.

Mr Pantami continued his controversial campaign despite revelations months ago that he held extremist views that would make millions of citizens uncomfortable with having him at the helm of data collection. Excerpts of the minister’s past controversial sermons included his thirst for the blood of unbelievers, a campaign to drive Christian minorities from their ancestral lands in central Nigeria and his role at a meeting that debated assassination of a Christian governor in the Muslim-dominated northern region.

Mr Pantami also said he considered Osama bin Laden a better Muslim that himself in 2006, years after the infamous Al Qaeda leader masterminded the killing of over 3,000 Americans on September 11, 2001.

Mr Pantami denied being a fundamentalist, but did not recant his vicious views as a Muslim preacher in northern parts of the country between mid and late 2000s. Mr Buhari swiftly rallied behind him rejecting public pressure to sack the minister.

The minister did not return a request seeking comments about why he enlisted Nigeria in DCO. An email to DCO was not immediately returned Wednesday morning.

DSS allegedly arrests and detains Israeli filmmakers for 'supporting IPOB'

The Israeli Foreign Ministry has accused the Nigerian police of arresting three Israelis who were shooting a documentary in southeast Nigeria.

Times of Israel reported that a Zionist activist, Rudy Rochman, filmmaker Noam Leibman and French-Israeli Journalist E. David Benaym were allegedly arrested last week when they visited Ogidi village, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State to shoot a documentary.

The Israelis were in Nigeria to film “We Were Never Lost,” a documentary exploring Jewish communities in African countries such as Kenya, Madagascar, Uganda, and Nigeria. They took off from Ben Gurion Airport on July 5 and landed in Nigeria the next day.

Locals said the SSS operatives allegedly interrogated and detained the crew at a synagogue during Friday night services in Ogidi, before taking them to Abuja.

Last Thursday, a post shared on "We Were Never Lost" Facebook page read;

Quote:“We Were Never Lost is a project working to reconnect unknown, disconnected and re-emerging Jewish communities around the world. Our first season is set in Africa and we are currently filming our first episode on the Jews of Nigeria. There are many Jews in Nigeria, Igbos included and we are here only to help the local practicing and observing Jewish communities, to provide them with resources, and to document their lives, experiences and aspirations.
"We do not take any position on political movements as we are not here as politicians nor as a part of any governmental delegations.
"After days of being here our team has experienced and met some of the most amazing humans beings (Jews) in the world and we can’t wait to share their story.
"We are here to spread light. Stay tuned."

Peoples Gazette reported that Nigeria’s foreign ministry confirmed the arrest on Tuesday July 13 and noted that the Israeli Embassy in Abuja was following up on the case.

Sahara Reporters also reported that last week, the "We Were Never Lost" group met with Igbo leader, Eze Chukwuemeka Eri and presented him with a framed Shiviti made in Jerusalem.

Rochman also presented another Igbo community with a Torah scroll whose cover was designed by British-Israeli street artist Solomon Souza.

EFCC raids Lagos hotel, arrests 30 people for alleged fraud

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested 30 suspects during a raid on Parktonian Hotel in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

The operatives were alleged to have gained entry into the occupants’ rooms by seizing the master cards from the management of the hotel at gunpoint.

It was gathered that some of the occupants were naked under the duvet when the operatives gained entry into the rooms.

One of the victims, while lamenting the invasion, told the Peoples Gazette, “I was naked, and I had to beg them (for me) to put something on. I am actually hypertensive, but I put myself together because I am not a criminal in any way.”

An eyewitness said to the publication, “They broke into the hotel and threatened to shoot the receptionists and management workers if they didn’t immediately release the master access card to them. So, the hotel workers had to comply immediately.”

According to the newspaper, it was learnt that no fewer than 13 guests were whisked away by the EFCC operatives during the raid.

Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson for the EFCC, later confirmed the raid in a statement.

He said the operatives acted on verified intelligence targeted at suspects at Parktonian Hotel, adding that 30 suspects were arrested during the raid.

He said, “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, acting on verified intelligence, carried out a sting operation targeted at cybercrime suspects at Parktonian Hotel in the Lekki area of Lagos State in the early hours of Tuesday.

“During the exercise, 30 suspects were arrested. Of this number, 24 have been established to be involved in internet-related fraud. The operation was executed without incident as the facility had been under surveillance for weeks during which the commission was able to isolate the rooms where the suspects were lodged.

“Access to the rooms was seamless as the commission has standard procedure for accessing such facilities without application of force or discomfort to guests. No guest of the hotel was molested.

“But the commission observes a disturbing trend in which cybercrime suspects now employ kept ladies who feign nakedness as a decoy to distract operatives of the commission to enable them to destroy incriminating evidence before arrest.”

Southern Kaduna: Herdsmen kill 100 people in six days, houses, valuables destroyed

 July 14, 2021

The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), has lamented that suspected armed Fulani herdsmen have killed not less than 100 Atyap natives in the last six days.
They said about 24 villages were also burnt and hundreds of hectares of farmland bearing growing food crops destroyed.

The spokesman of SOKAPU, Luka Binniyat, in a statement said, “For the 6th day running, armed gunmen, identified as Fulani herdsmen by victims, laid siege to several communities in Atyap land, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area (LGA) of Southern Kaduna and left no less than 33 people dead in an ongoing genocide and land grabbing in which 108 Southern Kaduna communities have been displaced and taken over by them since 2019.”

He explained that in the latest orgy of bloodshed, the invaders stormed Magamiya village in the night around 11pm and attacked the family compound of the traditional ruler of Atyap Chiefdom, Agwatyap of Atyap Chiefdom, Sir Dominic Yahaya and other households were looted of valuables and foodstuffs into waited Hilux before setting the buildings on fire, while a 70- year old traditional ruler, Mr Toma Tauna was killed.

The statement further explained that the same assailants attacked Matyei village and 156 homes were all burnt, the Catholic Church in Matei and its pastorium were also burnt, the Catchiest, simply known as Catchiest Yau, and an infant, were killed in the attack, while six (6) other persons were killed in the violence that lasted for over an hour.

The statement stated that the armed Fulani herdsmen then went down to Abuyab Community about 500 metres away and burnt down ECWA church, the home of Former ECOMOG Field Commander, Maj. Gen. Shekari Billyok (rtd) and other homes, adding that their attempt to attack Runji Community was repelled by villagers who got reinforcement elsewhere.

According to the statement, as they retreated, they attempted to destroy part of the main bridge linking the communities with Zangon Kataf town and other Atyap Communities.

It said the same armed herdsmen came in Hilux vans and attacked the Atyap of Makarau and Kachechere Communities leaving 10 people confirmed dead, 12 houses burned after looting them, stressing that the ECWA Church and the Anglican Church pastoriums that serves the communities were set ablaze.

It said in a nutshell, “20 Atyap natives were killed by attackers (who all the villagers that saw them) identified as armed herdsmen between afternoon and today’s morning, Tuesday, 13 July, 2021.”

The statement explained that “in the past 6 days, at least 33 Atyap natives of Zangon Kataf Area were massacred, 4 churches and 215 homes burnt by assailants always identified as armed herdsmen in a genocidal campaign that became so intensive since 2016.”
SOKAPU condemned what it described as “this wicked act and the complicit silence and inaction of government from taking steps to bringing the perpetrators and their leaders to justice”.

The statement said the Atyap people have been consistent in accusing the Hausa settlers of Zangon Kataf semi urban town of harbouring killer herdsmen, lamenting that yet no authority has done anything about it.
SOKAPU called for humanitarian assistance for the thousands of displaced Atyap women and children who are still moving away from several villages to various places around Samaru Kataf, Zonkwa and environs.
SOKAPU also called on NEMA and SEMA to provide immediate relieve materials to the displaced persons.

It called on the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, Amnesty Internationals, the United Nations and all relevant international organizations, to mount pressure on the Federal Government and the Kaduna State Governments to stop the genocide in Atyap land and bring the culprits to justice.

President Buhari May Re-Present Lauretta Onochie For INEC Post
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-14-2021, 08:49 AM - No Replies

Quote:Despite the Senate’s rejection of the nomination of Lauretta Onochie as Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Presidency on Tuesday reaffirmed its confidence in her.

A Presidency source told The PUNCH, “The fact that President Muhammadu Buhari — who made the nomination — had not chosen to withdraw it shows that he still has faith in the process and Onochie’s candidature is viable. So far, he hasn’t withdrawn his confidence in Onochie.”

Onochie’s nomination attracted public outcry because of her open partisanship and the fact that her appointment would have amounted to a breach of the federal character principle.

The Chairman of the Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission, Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano South), had disclosed that the petitions against the Presidential aide were against the backdrop of her involvement in politics and alleged membership of a political party.

Gaya said, “In the case of Ms. Lauretta Onochie, we studied her curriculum vitae and other relevant documents, followed by exhaustive interaction around the petitions against her nomination which she responded to accordingly, including attesting that she is not a registered member of any political party.”

Attempts to get a response from the Special Assistant to the President of Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu were futile.

Calls to his mobile phone indicated that he was unreachable. He had yet to respond to a text message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.

‘Why we rejected Onochie’

Gaya also explained that the presidential aide was not rejected based on political affiliation.

Gaya said this while addressing journalists after Tuesday’s plenary.

He said, “We couldn’t approve the appointment of Onochie because she is from the same state as an INEC commissioner from Delta State, Mrs Agbamuche-Mbu, whose tenure may expire by December this year.

“Agbamuche-Mbu is still serving in INEC till December this year. That’s why we cannot clear another candidate from the state.”

Gaya said the committee considered various legal implications of the confirmation or otherwise of the nominees and also studied the mood of Nigerians before coming up with its report.

The Senator said his panel did not rely on the submissions of Onochie when she told the committee that Agbamuche-Mbu was actually representing Cross River State on the board of INEC.

“President Buhari actually specified her (Agbamuche-Mbu) state, which is Delta, in the letter.

“Also, during her confirmation by the 8th Senate, I was there when two senators from Delta, Messrs Ovie Omo-Agege and James Manager, stood up to congratulate the Senate for confirming her.

“We also got records from the past senate screening that Agbamuche-Mbu was a nominee from Delta State.”

On her membership of the APC, Gaya said the committee could not disqualify Onochie based on the records before it.

He said, “Madam Onochie has said she has ceased to be a member of the APC.

“The law said we can only disqualify a card-carrying member of a political party and since she denied her APC membership, we cannot hold that against her.”

Gaya had said in his report at plenary said the Committee received several petitions against the nominations of Onochie and Adam.

The Senate had earlier confirmed the appointment of five nominees as National Commissioners of INEC.

The upper chamber also stepped down the confirmation of Prof. Sani Adam (North Central) for further investigation by the committee.

The confirmation of the nominees followed the consideration of a report by the Gaya-led Senate Committee on INEC.

Those confirmed include Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru (North-West), Prof. Muhammad Sani Kallah (Katsina), Prof. Kunle Cornelius Ajayi (Ekiti), Dr. Baba Bila (North-East), and Saidu Babura Ahmad (Jigawa).

However, a PDP Senator from Benue State, Abba Moro, insisted that the nominee would still have been rejected even if not for the federal character principle.

Moro stated this in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Tuesday.

He said the Senate Committee on INEC, gave her a soft landing.

Moro said, “The truth of the matter is that the majority of Nigerians objected to the nomination of Lauretta Onochie, right from when she was presented to the Senate.

Wike Blames Cross River PDP Crisis On Imoke’s Leadership Style
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-14-2021, 08:40 AM - No Replies

Quote:Mounting criticisms of the leadership style of former governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, as responsible for the present crisis engulfing the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has continued, with the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, joining the fray.

In a remark by him that was supposed to be an eulogy of Imoke, during the recent celebration of his 60th birthday and the 10th anniversary of his Bridge Leadership Foundation (TBLF) as well as 11th Career Day Conference of the foundation, Wike choose to add some bile to the high tempo celebration, thereby altering the mood of the day, when he took on Imoke, heaping blame on him for the sliding fortunes of PDP in the state.

Imoke’s predecessor in office, Donald Duke was the first person to finger Imoke’s autocratic style of leadership for pushing Governor Ben Ayade and some of his cohorts out of the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was that same sentiment that was once again re-echoed by Wike, who accused Imoke of not doing enough to hold the party together in the state just as he took a swipe the national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus.

According to Wike, leadership is not theoretical but practical, saying that his honouring of the invitation by Imoke was a demonstration of his leadership attribute, which he said Imoke and some of the national leaders of the party lacked, a development that he said is affecting the party adversely.

Wike said that if Imoke as the leader of the party during his tenure as governor and now as an elder of the party had demonstrated practical leadership that the party would not have suffered the fate visited on it.

The birthday celebration was attended by some of the national and state leaders of the party, friends and associates of Imoke, including Secondus, who left shortly before Wike mounted the podium, former Senate Presidents, Bukola Saraki and Ayim Pius Ayim as well as former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole.

Some of the political pundits at the event described what happened as that of a snake you raise in your home who then turnaround to bite you.

They said Wike, who then was like an ‘errand boy’ to Rotimi Amaechi, when Imoke was governor, has in recent years turned chief tormentor of Cross River State and its leaders, including Imoke and Ayade.

We Must Do Everything Within Our Powers To End Insecurity, President Buhari

Frome STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE, Femi Adesina
Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity). Writes

WE MUST DO EVERYTHING WITHIN OUR POWERS TO END INSECURITY, PRESIDENT BUHARI TELLS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY MEMBERS

Quote:STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

WE MUST DO EVERYTHING WITHIN OUR POWERS TO END INSECURITY, PRESIDENT BUHARI TELLS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY MEMBERS

President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration is ready to use everything within its powers to end insecurity in the country and bring perpetrators of criminal activities to book.

The President, who spoke on Tuesday at a dinner with members of the National Assembly, held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, said ‘‘insecurity, manifesting as insurgencies, banditry, kidnapping and urban crime of all sorts is the single most difficult challenge we face today.’’

He expressed concern that insecurity had inhibited government’s ability to build infrastructure, provide the much needed social services to the people, and to attract investments that drive innovation, create industries, and provide jobs and create wealth.

‘‘Some of the people who perpetuate these various manifestations of insecurity do so for profit, others, in the name of discredited ideologies.

‘‘Whatever their motivations may be, their actions are an existential threat to our country.

‘‘In the circumstances, we must do everything within our power, without consideration of distractions, to put an end to their activities and bring them to book.

‘‘We cannot allow ourselves to be distracted from this objective, or waver in our commitment, and I am confident that together we will triumph in our present efforts,’’ he said.

President Buhari also used the occasion to hail the ninth National Assembly for discharging their legislative duties with maturity and competence, describing the legislature as ‘‘full partners in national development.’’

He particularly commended the minority parties in the legislature for their cooperation and support for Government programmes.

‘‘Our ability to govern in the best interests of the Nigerian people depends to a great deal on effective collaboration and partnership between the Legislature and the Executive.

‘‘The obligation to check and balance each other is not an invitation to conflict, and it should not be characterised by quarrelsome disagreement when consultation, engagements and compromise have proven time and again to be a more effective approach.

‘‘In the 9th Assembly, you have distinguished yourselves by your conduct in office, by the scale and quality of your legislative interventions, and by your capacity for engaging with the difficult questions facing the country with maturity and competence,’’ he said.

The President listed some legislative accomplishments of the ninth assembly ranging from returning of our budget cycle to January to December, the amendment of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), the Nigeria Police Act, the Finance Act, the Deep Offshore Production Sharing Contract Act, amongst others.

Commending the leadership of the National Assembly under Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila for their dedication through challenging times, the President told the legislators:

‘‘You have also succeeded in overcoming the political and other obstacles that have, for two decades, inhibited the much-needed reforms of our Oil and Gas industry, resulting now in the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).

‘‘I congratulate you all, and thank you for your contributions to the difficult, yet necessary task of nation building.’’

The President noted that the executive and legislature came into office at a time of significant challenges for the country.

‘‘Overcoming these challenges require that we finally confront long ignored questions of economics, politics, law and history that are often at the root of our national problems.

‘‘This moment in history requires us to make hard choices, take difficult decisions and act with diligence and patriotism to ensure that our country can survive and thrive long after we have all left.

‘‘What this means in effect is that our jobs will not get any easier. However, the objectives we seek, and will work together to achieve, deserve our best efforts regardless the sacrifice,’’ he said.

As the second legislative year of the 9th Assembly has just come to an end, the President noted that it was appropriate to jointly review shared commitments, to identify what has been achieved, and what is still left undone.

‘‘This way, we can prioritise activities and allocate the resources necessary to ensure that in the lifetime of this Assembly, and of the administration, we can complete the work we have started, and leave behind a record of achievement that will stand all of us in good stead in the assessment of history,’’ he said.

The President said he looked forward to continued collaboration and partnership between the Executive and Legislative arms of government, working together to achieve a shared vision of a peaceful and prosperous country.

Kanu, Igboho: We Won’t Allow Buhari’s Govt Take Us Back To 1984 – Falana

Quote:Kanu, Igboho: We won’t allow Buhari’s govt take us back to 1984 – Falana

Says police permit for rally illegal, unconstitutional …task media on self regulation

Human Rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, Tuesday, said that every attempt by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to take the country back to 1984 era will largely be resisted by Nigerians.

Falana who disclosed this at the 13th Wole Soyinka Centre Media Lecture Series to commemorate his 87th birthday, said that the treatment meted out to Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho is similar to what happened in 1984 when a Nigerian politician was kidnapped.

“We should not allow Buhari’s government take us back to 1984 when an attempt was made to kidnap Umaru Diko in London. He hd already been kidnapped and on the way to airport, a neighbor saw them and raised alarm after witnessing the inhuman treatment he was subjected to.

“In the case of Kanu, Kenya government cannot admit that on their soil a Nigerian was taken out of the country without going through the legal process. It’s likely they drugged him to sleep and brought him back to Nigeria. That is against the anti-torture act and Nigeria’s constitution. Therefore, those who say they brought Kanu back through some international collaboration are not saying the truth. Interpol cannot deport without due process.”

He insisted that those who say people will not be allowed to protest are just joking and are still living in military era, “even during the era of Babangida and Abacha people still protested because it’s their right.

“It is sad that Buhari forget quickly. In 2003, Obasanjo’s administration disbanded a rally in Kano which was attended by Buhari, we went to court and won the case. The court declared that police permit for rally is illegal and unconstitutional. A free people do not need permit to enjoy their freedom.

“Based on that, we mobilized the National Assembly and they made a law in 2015 that if you are going to have rally in Nigeria, all you need to do is to inform police to provide adequate security. The people in Abuja need to understand that we are not a conquered people, so they should learn to treat us with dignity.

“We are not surprised that the bill to criminalize protest has been withdrawn because it’s not possible in a democratic era.

Speaking to the theme of the event, ” Remaking Nigeria: Towards a secure and viable union”, Falana called on media practitioners to self regulate. “The media body is like the Guild of Editors, NUJ needs to met urgently and bring out some new code of conducts because now we have a situation whereby one or two people can set up online media and dish out stories, some with intentions of blackmailing. That needs to be corrected, we must not wait for government to do that.”

One of the speakers, a Public Interest and Human Rights Lawyer, Inebehe Effiong, said that Nigeria is at a very difficult period in which Buhari’s administration on a daily basis violates human rights.

Corroborating his views, Board Secretary, Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, Jiti Ogunye said that the call for self determination from different part of the country was as a result of prevalent injustice.

Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, Motunrayo Alaka, said that lecture serve as a reminders that the country problems are solvable and that Nigeria has the human resources needed to think through and work on a way out of our current quagmire once we gather the will to do the right things and do things right.

Daily Devotional for Wednesday 14th July

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY 14TH JULY.

A CONSCIOUSNESS OF YOUR DIVINITY

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:13 NIV).

It’s important that you come into a consciousness of who you really are in Christ. You have to learn and recognize who and what Christ means to you and in you.

The thrust of John’s admonition in our theme verse is the word “know,” which is “eidō” (Greek), and it means awareness. So, John says, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may have the awareness that you have eternal life.” You already believe; you already know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God; you already know in the deepest recesses of your spirit that you have eternal life; but is it in your present-moment, every-day consciousness?

He’s talking about a certain kind of knowledge that affects your current behaviour, your current decisions and opinions. He wants your current actions to be guided by this knowledge. He wants you to know that you were born into eternity when you were born again. You have eternal life now.

This is why Peter the Apostle stated in 2 Peter 1:3-4 that we’re associates of the God-kind: “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Peter 1:3-4).

With such awareness, when you face challenges, you’re unflustered, because you know who you are. Meditate on the Word of this life, and it’ll promote health in your body. Be aware of your roots in Christ, your divine lineage and heritage. It should become part of the scope of your knowledge that your life is for the glory of God; you’re more than a conqueror. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I know who I am! No matter the oppositions, challenges, or contrary winds that may come my way, I’m at peace, unflustered and in joy, because I know that I’m more than a conqueror. It has become part of the scope of my knowledge that my life is for the glory of God. I have the awareness of the hope of His calling in my life, and the inheritance He’s made available to me in Christ. Hallelujah!

TALKINGSESSION

Dear Heavenly Father, there’s none like You; from generation to generation, You’re God. I worship and adore You today, for Your love, grace, mercy, and kindness. Thank You for the ministry of the Holy Spirit in my life.

Thank You, for the written Word given to me, to inform, enlighten, teach, and to instruct me in righteousness. I honour You, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and will walk in Your prescribed order and purpose.

I thank You, for You’ve granted me all things that pertain to life and godliness; I don’t lack anything good, because the world belongs to me. I am steadfast and unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.

I am strengthened by the Holy Spirit in my inner man, and I win all the time. The Holy Spirit has granted me the supernatural advantage in life. I’ve been divinely enabled to walk in righteousness, prosperity, health, success, and victory.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I walk in greatness and superabundance today. Hallelujah!

Thank You for choosing me before the foundation of the world, to be holy and without blame before You in love, according to the good pleasure of Your will. You’ve made me the light of the world; therefore,

I shine ever so brightly. Not only are men drawn to the radiance of Your righteousness in me, they’re turned from darkness to light, and to the liberty of the sons of God, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

Okorocha: "I Can't Leave APC For Uzodinma. He Is A Gatecrasher To The Party"
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:GOVERNOR HOPE UZODINMA CAN’T BLACKMAIL SENATOR ROCHAS OKOROCHA OUT OF APC.

- THE IMO GOVERNOR IS REAPING THE FRUIT OF APC, WHERE HE DID NOT SOW.

- HE BECAME GOVERNOR WITHOUT BEING A MEMBER OF APC.

- SENATOR ROCHAS OKOROCHA CAN’T LEAVE APC FOR HIM.

Governor Hope Uzodinma can not and will not blackmail Senator Rochas Okorocha out of the All Progressives Congress, APC. Governor Uzodinma was behind the fake story of Senator Rochas Okorocha leaving the APC for the PDP, last Monday.

He had come up with the fake story of Okorocha leaving APC, because the National Secretariat of the Party had set up a reconciliation Committee. And also because of Okorocha’s visit to the National Office of the Party, with men and women who had sacrificed all they had, to make APC the Party to beat in Imo. And with National Assembly members who have the mandate of the people.

Governor Uzodinma was never a member of APC. He joined APC after he had been announced governor by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had given Judgement that the Candidate of APC in the 2019 governorship election was Uche Nwosu. Showing that, Chief Uzodinma was a gatecrasher in APC.

Yet, he does not want to be humble about that. He wants those who labored and blackmailed over APC to leave the party for him. There would not have been APC in Imo today, if Okorocha didn’t take the political risk he took to make Imo APC.

Governor Uzodinma is reaping where he did not sow and one had expected him to be sober about that. But he has continued to use blackmail to see how the party could be abandoned for him. At what point did Chief Uzodinma join APC?

He had destroyed APC in Imo with his style of governance, which is anti-people. The economy of the State has been grounded. Every sector in Imo is in coma. He is using intimidation and threats to govern Imo people. He has demarketed APC in Imo.

Governor Uzodinma might be the one working to destroy APC before joining another party, because he is not doing anything to encourage the party and its members in the State.

Governor Uzodinma should leave Okorocha alone and face governance.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has called on the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government to resign before Nigeria collapses due to insecurity.

Wike lamented that the APC-led government had failed to carry out its responsibility of protecting Nigerians.

The Governor made the call at an event in Port Harcourt, the state capital, yesterday.

He stressed that the level of insecurity in Nigeria had exposed the APC-led federal government’s inability to manage the country.

The Governor noted that Nigerians need relief from banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.

According to Wike: “The heightening degree of insecurity in Nigeria and the obvious inability of the APC-led federal government to tackle remains Nigeria’s greatest problem.

“We are in desperate need of relief from daily incidents of kidnapping and mindless killings insurgents, herdsmen, bandits and terrorists.

“The APC-led government must step up and be alive to its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property in all parts of the country or admits its lack of capacity and resign before this country collapses.”

Senator Shehu Sani who represented the Kaduna Central during the 8th National Assembly has slammed the Northern Governors for allegedly misinforming President Muhammadu Buhari on the deteriorating security situations in their states.

Shehu made the remark on Tuesday via a post on his official Facebook page.
He said Nigerians would be wrong to blame the president for not tackling the security crises, stating that he is a “victim of double face”.

The post reads, “The Problem with many Northern Governors is how they weep and mourn about kidnappings, killings and terrorism in their states;
“And when they travel to Abuja to meet the President, they sing his praises and beat his drums and return home.

“I think we should stop blaming him whenever he said he is surprised, shocked or unaware of some grievous security matters.

He appears to be a victim of double face”.

The soldier, Jay Matol, is said to have suspected Jennifer of cheating so he allegedly raped her, then shot and stabbed her multiple times.

After the alleged killing, it is claimed that he placed her dead body on the bed and locked her inside before running away with her phone. He also allegedly severed her thumb to use it in unlocking her phone.

NDLEA busts interstate drug cartels in Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, arrests seven kingpins

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have busted three major interstate drug cartels supplying illicit substances to some states in the North and recovered skunk and cocaine weighing over 843 kilograms.

Director, Media & Advocacy of the agency, Femi Babafemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, July 13, said at least seven of the drug kingpins behind the syndicates were arrested in separate raids carried out in Kogi, Nasarawa and Benue states.

"In a bid to evade the frequent road interdiction efforts by officers of the Kogi state command of the Agency, a cartel led by one Augustine Emmanuel, 45, opted to move its consignments through the waterways between Edo and Kogi states," he stated.

"They were however intercepted on Monday 12th July, 2021 at a Jetty in Idah, Kogi State, where a Toyota Avalon car with registration number: Lagos SMK 345 CG, loaded with 487kg of cannabis and ferried across the waterways from Agenebode, Edo State to the Jetty in Idah, was seized and the syndicate leader arrested."

In Nasarawa state, a team of NDLEA operatives had on Thursday 8th July raided one of the most hostile drug joints in the state capital. About 356kg of cannabis and various psychotropic substances were recovered, with the arrest of four major drug dealers including the most notorious drug kingpin in Nasarawa state called "Boogie" while his real name is Muhammed Umar. His drug distribution tentacles cut across Kano, Plateau, Benue and parts of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

Curiously, some quantities of cocaine were intercepted in Benue on 8th, 9th and 13th July. The first dealer, John Aondosoo was arrested in Makurdi on Thursday with 28.6grams of crack cocaine and after initial interrogation, it was discovered that his supplier, Henry Ezeomah would bring more supplies in the early hours of Friday from Obosi, Anambra. Indeed, the supplier was arrested last Friday with 29.17grams of crack cocaine. In another raid on Tuesday, 13th July the Benue command also seized some quantities of cocaine.

Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) commended the Commanders, officers and men of Kogi, Nasarawa and Benue Commands of the Agency for taking the war against illicit drugs in Nigeria to the doorsteps of the cartels.

He charged them not to relent but remain resolute in their commitment to rid every community of the drug scourge.

Quote:TB Joshua: I can’t be friends with all ministers of God – Oyedepo

General Overseer of the Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has said he loves all Ministers of God but cannot be friends with every one of them.

“I love Jesus and I am telling you by the Holy Ghost, do not be the enemy of your destiny. Act smart and walk in the truth. I love all ministers but I am not a friend to every minister. No I cannot be,” Oyedepo said.

Oyedepo said this at a time when popular ministers of God were called out for not attending the burial of Prophet T.B Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations.

The clergyman, while preaching in his church, advised his members to be wary of who they associate with as it can make or mar their destiny.

”People who scorn your God can’t add value to your life. There are people you must delete from your list of contacts. Delete them!

“There are people that you meet that would end your life and also delete them from your list.”

Gomes said: "It was a friend of mine who was in the sea with the person who was attacked. Suddenly, he saw the man struggling. There was a lot of blood in the water."

Glazier Ademir Sebastiao was in the water with the victim when the attack took place.

Senate Rejects Lauretta Onochie As INEC Commissioner

Quote:The senate has rejected the nomination of Lauretta Onochie, presidential aide, as a commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The upper legislative chamber rejected her appointment after Kabiru Gaya, chairman of the INEC committee, presented a report in plenary.

Onochie was nominated for the job by President Muhammadu Buhari in October 2020.

Her nomination sparked outrage over concerns that she is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but the presidential aide said she resigned her membership of the ruling party in 2019.

TheCable found Onochie’s claim to be false.

There have been demonstrations against Onochie’s nomination by different civil society organisations.

While presenting the report on Thursday, Gaya said Onochie was disqualified on federal character principles, adding that there is currently a serving commissioner from Delta state, where Onochie hails from.

Canada: Crane Collapses At A Building Site, Several People Killed (Photos)

Quote:Several people have died after a crane collapsed at a construction site.

The tragic incident, which took place on Monday, saw the crane fall to the ground where people were on the ground nearby.

Police have yet to confirm if those who had died were members of the crew or the public.

Those nearby have been evacuated as the structure has been deemed unsafe.

The development company says there was a "catastrophic failure" on Monday morning when the crane fell into an adjacent building and a home.

The crash, which took place around 10.45am PT (5.45pm GMT), occurred at the downtown Brooklyn building on Bernard Street in British Columbia, Canada.

So far, police have said there have been "multiple confirmed fatalities" but have not included how many people have died.

Three patients were also taken to hospital with "varying injuries".

Inspector Adam MacIntosh also told the media that at least one person is missing - and confirmed that they were not part of the crew.

"It looked like the crane was moving but then I realized that it wasn't moving in a fashion where it was operating, it was coming down," witness Krista Roessing told CBC.

She then described how she called 911 as people rushed from all directions to help.

She added that construction workers asked people to back away and emergency services raced to the scene within minutes.

"It's shocking," she said. "It's pretty hard to process."

Anna Jacyszyn, who works nearby, said she saw a "huge pile of dust" after the cran fell.

"I was literally just praying and crying, because the emotions you get when you know that someone could be hurt is pretty drastic," she said.

The area has been cordoned off for the investigation, with the British Columbia and WorkSafeBC conducting their own reviews into the incident.

Several workers were near the crane when it collapsed, with Insp MacIntosh adding "not all persons have been identified."

He added that "the area remains unstable and unsafe."

A four-block perimeter was evacuated with residents and drivers urged to stay away.

Power was disrupted to downtown and traffic is being rerouted away from the crash.

A structural engineer is studying how to make the area safe again.

Governor Sanwo-Olu arrests machete-wielding criminals in Ojota

The war against criminality in Lagos State has gone a notch higher as the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu personally arrested a gang of suspected criminals, which specialises in harassing motorists and road users in traffic.

The gang of suspected criminals met their waterloo Monday morning, July 12, while attempting to unleash terror on a motorist around Ojota in-bound Alausa.

Help however came for the motorist as Governor Sanwo-Olu's convoy approached the scene to rescue him from the three machete-wielding criminals who were at the time, trying to forcefully drag him out of his vehicle.

The security personnel attached to the Governor swooped on the suspects, retrieved the dangerous weapons from them and arrested the three of them.

It would be recalled that Governor Sanwo-Olu while handing over security equipment purchased by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, for the use of Lagos Police Command, on Thursday June 10, said there would be no hiding place for criminals in the State.

"We are determined to stabilize the security situation in Lagos State, as our own contribution towards lasting national security. Let me also use this opportunity to sound a note of warning to all criminals who are operating in Lagos State or planning to operate here; all armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists, bandits, and other criminals, we will leave no stone unturned in making this State inhospitable to you. We will find you, wherever you may be lurking and we will bring the full weight of the law on you,” Governor Sanwo-Olu declared.

The brand new crime-fighting equipment donated to the Lagos State Police Command were; 150 Double Cabin Vehicles, 30 Saloon Patrol Vehicles, 1,000 Ballistic Vests; 1,000 Ballistic Helmets, 1,000 Handheld Police Radios/Walkie-Talkies, 100 Security Patrol Bikes; two Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), four High Capacity Troop Carriers and two Anti-Riot Water Cannon Vehicles.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated after his security personnel arrested the three machete-wielding criminals that the exercise was a warning signal to other criminal elements and prospective traffic robbers in Lagos that there is no hiding place for criminality in Lagos State.

Also on Monday, the Strike Squad of the Lagos State Taskforce carried out a massive raid on motorcycle (okada) riders at Second rainbow and Toyota Bus Stop along Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

During the raid, which lasted for some hours, a total of 105 motorcycles were impounded. Prior to Monday's raid, a total of 201 motorcycles were impounded last week.

A man has been arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death over her refusal to have sex with him.

The niece of the dead woman narrated the incident while calling for justice for her mother's twin sister.

According to the niece, the suspect waa in the habit of beating his wife. On June 27, the woman, Mrs Ugieki Asemota returned home from a wedding to find her husband drunk, so she had a bath and locked herself in a room to avoid getting beaten which is allegedly her husband's habit when he's drunk.

However,  late at night, the husband is said to have banged on her door, demanding sex but she told him to go to his room and leave her alone.

When he wouldn't leave and she could sense him becoming violent, afraid of what would happen if he eventually enters the room, the wife is said to have jumped out of her room through a window.

Peace Ufuoma Who Rocked 'Aggressive Malpractice' Shirt Lands In Trouble

Quote:The identity of the University of Benin female graduate in a viral video bragging about how she graduated using ‘malpractice’ has been revealed.

In the video, the female graduate had an inscription on her signing out shirt that ascribed her academic success to 'aggressive malpractice'.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqN96kn8WEg

“Aggressive malpractice brought me this far”, the inscription read. The excited graduand seemed not to care as she showed off the shirt while giving dance moves.

While many Nigerians slammed her shirt inscription, others cautioned that the lady's action may see her certificate withheld by the University.

Identity of the lady have now emerged as the University Management launched a manhunt for the erring fresh graduate, following the outrage that trailed the video.

The lady has been identified as one Peace Ufuoma. An impeccable source told CAMPUS GIST that, Ufoma graduated from Microbiology Department, Faculty of Life Sciences.

Meanwhile, following the outrage that trailed the manner in which the student marked concluding her undergraduate studies, the University Management has commenced investigations into the viral video.

CAMPUS GIST reliably gathered that necessary arrangements have been put in place to summon the graduate to appear before a Disciplinary Panel over the video. If found wanting, she may be dismissed or have her certificate withheld.

Students are usually invited to Panels or Committees on offences bothering on examination malpractices such as the one Ufoma is being investigated for.

A top official of the institution who spoke in an exclusive chat with CAMPUS GIST on Monday, while craving anonymity, lamented that the lady's actions had brought shame to the University.

“The character exhibited by the student is not a true reflection of who we are as an institution of learning – our training, discipline, norms and tradition. We raise and award our certificates to only deserving graduands both in character and learning,” the official told CAMPUS GIST.

Some alumni of the University who commented on the matter, lamented the extent of damage the actions of the graduate may have brought to the institution and other alumni.

“I think if this is allowed to slide, it would set a bad precedent. The worse is yet to come. Some people might feel Uniben doesn't have a standard anymore and we produce jokers as graduates”, said a former Union leader of the school.

“I personally find this shameful and a slap on Uniben as an institution, a top institution at that”, an alumni of the University commented in one of the platforms where the video was reposted.

Another wrote: “The internet never forgets. So if I am seeking for job and now present my CV to a company, my employers will base my status as a Uniben graduate as someone who must have engaged in exam malpractice in school and subject me to further tests and screening.”

''Has anybody seen Nnamdi Kanu kill anybody? He’s not a murderer''- Fr Mbaka calls for the release of Nnamdi Kanu

Fiery Catholic priest and the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has demanded unconditional release of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu was arrested on June 27, extradited to Nigeria, and re-arraigned in court on June 29. He is currently being remanded in DSS custody still July 26. Read here.

The Nation reports that Mbaka reportedly made the call during a sermon on Sunday July 11. He advised the Federal Government to deploy same vigor with which Kanu was arrested deal with arrest insecurity, poverty, unemployment, activities of herdsmen, injustice and pragmatic nepotism.

He reportedly made the request for Kanu's release when some government agents whom he did not mention, came calling with some juicy offers to him which he turned down.

Quote:“Some persons came to me sometimes ago, that they have two slots for me. I told them I don’t need such offer because I have a slot that I need. They said I should mention what I need,” he began.

My first request was that they should release Nnamdi Kanu because since you people arrested him, we have lost many lives, so of what use is his arrest if after he was arrested, kidnapping hasn’t stopped in the North, thus, arresting him doesn’t solve the problem.

Has anybody seen Nnamdi Kanu kill anybody? He’s not a murderer. Have they caught him with guns, so why arrest him? Where were the nation’s security agencies when several students were kidnapped?” he said

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES,

TUESDAY 13TH JULY 2021.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC: BE SPIRITUALLY DISCERNING

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41).

God said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” (Hosea 4:6). And Jesus said, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”(John 8:32). Many are walking in darkness without knowing, because they don’t know the truth; they don’t know the Scriptures.

They’re honestly seeking truth; they want to know God, but then they go to the wrong place for knowledge.

Just because you heard some people say, “Shout hallelujah and clap for Jesus,” doesn’t mean it’s a church of Jesus Christ. You’ve got to be spiritually discerning. In Acts 16, while walking through the marketplace, Paul and Silas encountered a girl possessed with an evil spirit. The Bible says, “The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation” (Acts 16:17).

Wasn’t she stating a fact? She was! But the 18th verse says, “…Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.” What she was saying sounded nice, but she was being influenced by a spirit of divination. Paul discerned this, for as she spoke, he (Paul) was grieved in his spirit.

When the Spirit of God speaks, a child of God isn’t grieved in his spirit; rather, you’re edified. When you hear a voice or a message, you have to know by what spirit such a message is coming to you. Many Christians have listened to the voice of Satan and mistaken it for God’s voice, because they were undiscerning.

We’re in the last days, and Jesus told us these things would happen; so He says, “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation….” And in Matthew 10:16, He said, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” Then in Ephesians 5:15 AMP He tells us not to be ignorant, but to always discern the will of God: Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people.

PRAYER

Righteous Father, I thank you for conditioning my spirit, and granting me the ability to discern and walk in your perfect will always; your Word is the true light that gives me direction and guidance. And now, Lord, I pray for as many as are being swayed in the wrong direction, that they’d hear your voice today and follow the truth of the Gospel, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

The priest stated that banditry and kidnapping have continued in the country even after the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu.

Addressing his congregation, Fr. Mbaka stated that the federal government should stop fighting agitators and use the same energy expended in arresting Nnamdi Kanu to tackle issues such as youth unemployment which leads to banditry and other crimes that cause agitations in the country.

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 2:1).

There’s no better time to be strong in the Lord, taking advantage of all His might, than in these last days. You have to be strong in the spirit. Paul the Apostle, in writing to the church in Ephesus, said, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Ephesians 6:10). How important this is for us today.

There’ll be a time of testing in your life, and in that testing period, you must remain in the Lord. There may be so much happening in your life; the challenges may be fierce and the storms raging hard; but be strong in the Lord; in His grace. He said, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord...” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

The Word says in Matthew 10:22, “...he that endureth to the end shall be saved.” You have to not just finish but finish stronger than how you started. That’s the path of the righteous; it’s “...like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day” (Proverbs 4:18 ESV).

In Christ, we get stronger; the glory continues to increase. It’s from faith to faith, glory to glory, and grace heaped upon grace. That’s the life He’s given us. As long as you’re strong in the Lord—keeping His Word in your heart and in your mouth—you’ll continually walk in victory and dominion.

Yes, there’re tests, trials and challenging times in our journey of faith, but the Bible says, “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small” (Proverbs 24:10). To gripe and cower when situations challenge your faith is to checkmate your chances of promotion. Recall what the Spirit says in James 1:2: “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations.” He knows that victory is in our spirit.

Never be overwhelmed by any situation, for there’s a strengthener in you—the Holy Spirit. And in Him, by Him, and through Him you’ve overcome: “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Praise God!

PRAYER

Thank you, heavenly Father, for granting me, according to the riches of your glory, to be strengthened with might by your Spirit in my inner man. I’m continually strengthened from within and invigorated with miracle-working ability, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Sporadic Violence Hits Kwazulu-Natal And Johannesburg Over Zuma's Detention
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-12-2021, 06:01 AM - Replies (1)

Quote:Sporadic violence has erupted in South Africa, with dozens arrested after looting in the eastern KwaZulu-Natal province, where ex-president Jacob Zuma is in jail, and in the economic capital Johannesburg.
Police said in a statement Sunday they had arrested 37 people in the eastern province of KwaZulu-Natal and 25 in Johannesburg over the previous two days.

In KwaZulu-Natal, protests broke out a day after Zuma was imprisoned on Thursday.

The N3 highway linking Durban and Johannesburg was blocked for many hours, including a stretch south of Estcourt prison, where Zuma is being held, and 23 trucks were set alight at Mooi River.

While some of the protests appear to have been triggered by Zuma’s 15-month detention for contempt of court, they are tied in with a sense of economic desperation as the country faces tightened restrictions under a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We don’t know yet what the strike is all about… but from what people have been saying it’s something related to our former president,” Sphamandla Ndlazi told AFP in the Jeppe neighbourhood of Johannesburg, with looted shops and burnt cars in the background.

President Cyril Ramaphosa called for calm on Saturday, urging people to “express themselves within the law” and avoid destruction that could further cripple the economy.

In Kwazulu-Natal, the police “had their hands full yesterday and throughout the night”, spokesman Jay Naicker told AFP on Sunday.

“Criminals and opportunistic individuals” took advantage of the tense climate to “enrich themselves”, he added. Several stores were looted, including in the Durban suburb Mariann Hill.

In Johannesburg, hundreds defied restrictions in two disenfranchised suburbs late Saturday, but their protests ended in violence, looting and 25 arrests, police said.

In Jeppe, police dispersed a crowd of 300 who had set up barricades on a main road before looting businesses.

Similar scenes unfolded in Alexandra, one of the poorest townships that neighbours the high-end city of Sandton, where nearly 800 rioters clashed with the police overnight. One officer was shot and hospitalised.

The police said they “remain on high alert” in the two provinces.

South Africa’s top court on June 29 jailed Zuma for refusing to appear before a probe into the corruption that entangled his nine years in power.

But the 79-year-old former anti-apartheid fighter remains popular, especially in his native KwaZulu-Natal where he is seen to embody traditional values.

SERAP Asks Court To Slash Jumbo Allowances For Buhari, Govs, NASS Members
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 07-11-2021, 03:44 PM - No Replies

Quote:Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja “to order the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) to perform their statutory functions to review downward the remuneration and allowances of President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, 36 governors and members of the National Assembly.”

SERAP is arguing that “slashing jumbo pay for these high-ranking political office-holders would reduce the unfair pay disparity between political officer holders and judicial officers, address the persistent poor treatment of judges, and improve access of victims of corruption to justice and effective remedies.”

In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/658/2021 filed last Friday, SERAP is seeking: “an order of mandamus to direct and compel the RMAFC to send its downward review of the remuneration and allowances of these high-ranking public office holders and recommendations to the National Assembly for appropriate remedial and legislative action, as provided for by the Nigerian Constitution 1999 [as amended].”

SERAP is also seeking “an order of mandamus to direct and compel the RMAFC to perform its mandatory constitutional duty to urgently review upward the remuneration, salaries and allowances, as well as the conditions of service for Nigerian judges.”

Joined in the suit as Respondents are Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, for themselves, and on behalf of all members of the Senate and House of Representative; and the National Judicial Council.

SERAP is arguing that: “While high-ranking political office-holders continue to enjoy lavish allowances, including life pensions, and access to security votes, which they have powers to spend as they wish, the remuneration and allowances of judges are grossly insufficient to enable them to maintain themselves and their families in reasonable comfort.”

According to SERAP: “The huge pay disparity between these high-ranking political officer-holders and judges is unfair, unjust and discriminatory, especially given the roles of judges to the people and the country.”

SERAP is also seeking “an order of mandamus to direct and compel NSIWC to perform its mandatory legal duty to urgently examine, streamline and recommend upward remuneration and allowances of Nigerian judges, and to recommend downward review of allowances of President Buhari, Vice-President Osinbajo, 36 governors and lawmakers to the National Assembly.”

The suit filed on behalf of SERAP by its lawyers Kolawole Oluwadare and Ms Adelanke Aremo, read in part: “the remuneration and allowances of judges have fallen substantially behind the average salaries and allowances of high-ranking political office-holders such as President, Vice-President, governors and lawmakers.”

“While government reviewed upward the salaries and allowances of political office holders on four occasions between May 1999 and March 2011, the salaries and allowances of judicial officers were only reviewed twice during the same period.”

“The review of the remuneration, allowances, and conditions of service for political, public and judicial office holders carried out by the RMAFC in 2009 shows huge disparity between the remuneration and allowances of judges and those of high-ranking political office-holders.”

“The NSIWC in a letter to SERAP admitted that it has powers to examine, streamline and recommend the salary scales applicable to each post in the public service but informed us to redirect our request to the RMAFC.”

“There is a legal duty upon the RMAFC to urgently review downward the remuneration and allowances of high-ranking political office-holders.”

The rather unfair treatment of members of the judiciary – being one of the three coordinate branches of the government – is akin to contempt. It can be reasonably inferred that the judiciary are considered so unimportant by the political class, hence the refusal to pay them reasonable remuneration and allowances.”

“Judges should get all to which they are reasonably entitled, and it is unfair, illegal, unconstitutional, and discriminatory to continue to treat judges as second-class people while high-ranking political office-holders continue to enjoy lavish salaries and allowances.”

“Despite their important roles and responsibilities, Nigerian judges are poorly treated, particularly when their remuneration, salaries, allowances, and conditions of service are compared with that of political office-holders. Judges should not have to endure the most poignant financial worries.”

“The increase in the cost of living and the injustice of inadequate salaries bears heavily on judges, as it undermines their ability to effectively perform their judicial functions.”

“The roles and functions performed by judges across the country are second to none in their importance, including in facilitating access of victims of corruption and human rights violations to justice and effective remedies.”

“As a safeguard of judicial independence, the budget of the judiciary ought to be prepared in collaboration with the judiciary having regard to the peculiar needs and requirements of judicial administration.”

“The remuneration and pensions of judges must be secured by law at an adequate level that is consistent with their status and is sufficient to safeguard against conflict of interest and corruption.”

“Nigerians would continue to bear the brunt of denied access to justice, a better judiciary and a better administration of justice until judges across the country are paid what they rightly deserve.”

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.
